Color induction in the restoration of architecture in historic city centers

In the restoration of historic facades, specialists need to tackle problem colors applied ornamental elements that appear different on a facade than if they were isolated, because surrounding surfaces influence them through color induction. This study evaluates difference between ornaments observed in isolation, which we call nominal colors, and background induced considering palette Valencia as studied by Color Research Group Architecture Universitat Politècnica de València. The consisted evaluation 108 pairs painted physical cardboards, rated 26 female students (average age 26.5), under natural lighting conditions, using Natural System (NCS) Atlas for match. Results indicate have lower NCS blackness compared with ones, slightly higher or no chromaticness shift.
